The Water and Wastewater Equipment Manufacturers Assn. (WWEMA) and Boenning & Scattergood Inc. have released the 2016 4Q WWEMA/Boenning Leading Demand Index, formulated to provide insight into market and funding conditions related to water and wastewater projects.

The index rose slightly in the fourth quarter as key forward-looking indicators continue to point toward an acceleration in demand for water and wastewater equipment in 2017. According to the report’s author, Boenning & Scattergood Managing Director Ryan Connors, the data indicate an encouraging demand prognosis for manufacturers selling into the water and wastewater industry in 2017 and beyond.

A review of the market and the five key factors that make up the index indicate that water and wastewater utilities are continuing to expand their payrolls, water and wastewater equipment demand continues to improve upon entering 2017, water stocks continued their positive momentum in the fourth quarter, ductile iron pipe prices remain on a firm upward path, and the housing market remains a wild card with residential building permits remaining volatile.

The full report includes charts relating to these factors, depicting data and trends dating back three to five years, as well as additional background and analysis. It is available exclusively to WWEMA members. For information on WWEMA and membership, visit www.wwema.org.
