Last night, President Donald J. Trump gave his second State of the Union Speech. The president briefly spoke on rebuilding our nation’s infrastructure as well as other timely topics.
“Many of us have campaigned on the same core promises to defend American jobs and demand fair trade for American workers,” Trump said during the speech, according to The New York Times. “To rebuild and revitalize our nation’s infrastructure, to reduce the price of health care and prescription drugs, to create an immigration system that is safe, lawful, modern, and secure and to pursue a foreign policy that puts America’s interests first.”
Over the last couple months, many different acts have been passed on water infrastructure.
At the end of October 2018, Trump signed the America’s Water Infrastructure Act of 2018. This injected some money into water infrastructure funding mechanisms, most notably for grants and for state revolving funds.
President Trump then signed the Water Infrastructure Improvement Act into law on Jan. 14, 2019. The signing was praised by The National Association of Clean Water Agencies. The bill includes provisions to ensure that the Environmental Protection Agency integrates the use of green infrastructure throughout its Clean Water Act compliance programs.
Days before the signing, the Water Environment Federation and 90 other water organization sent a letter to Congress urging the funding of water infrastructure.
