New Analyzer Offers Continuous Measurement, Dual Stream SampleA new
analyzer from Hach is designed to perform continuous on-line analysis of Total
Organic Carbon (TOC) in drinking water treatment plants. The dual-stream
analyzer uses a reliable UV-persulfate analysis technique and is designed to
meet the Disinfectants and Disinfection By-Products Final Rule (DBPR). The
analyzer acquires a removal percentage measurement by continuously alternating
between inlet and outlet water sampling points.

With the
introduction of the Disinfectants and Disinfection By-Product Rule (D/DBPR) by
the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the measuring of Total
Organic Carbon concentrations throughout a drinking water plant has become very
important. The D/DBP rule requires those in the industry to report the TOC
removal percentage based on the TOC and Alkalinity concentration of the source
water compared to the TOC concentration of the distribution water.

Continuous
on-line measurement of TOC removal percentage provides two key benefits. The
first benefit is an immediate knowledge of your compliance status. The second
benefit is continuous knowledge of removal percentage information, which allows
you to actively control the employed removal technology (e.g. enhanced
coagulation).
