The California-based company Mesofilter Inc., has developed a new water filtration solution that reportedly removes 99% of arsenic, lead, uranium and heavy metals. The new filter also is capable of inactivating bacteria and viruses in water and air without the use of pressure, chemicals or plastic.
The paper filter, coined Mesopaper by the company, can be molded into a variety of shapes for a collection of purposes. Specifically, the technology appears ripe for pour-through filters, straw filters and industrial water filtration cartridges.
The composition of the technology includes a combination of meso-ceramics with natural cellulose. Adding an additional level of credibility, the filter has been tested and certified by the National Sanitation Foundation International.
The technology is a promising development in the face of widespread water pollution problems throughout the United States and the rest of the world. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the three most hazardous threats to human health are arsenic, lead and mercury, and Mesopaper effectively cleans drinking water of two of these substances.
