DAF Systems Can Be Engineered for a Variety of Industrial Processes

June 26, 2018

Simple design allows systems to be individually planned

Dissolved air flotation (DAF) systems effectively remove total suspended solids; fats, oil and grease; and other pollutants from industrial wastewater. Conceptually, the DAF process is simple—tiny bubbles attach to solid contaminants, causing them to float, and then sludge is skimmed off the surface of the water—but designing a DAF system for a real-world application is not quite as simple.

JWC Environmental, with its FRC DAF products, has removed layers of complexity from DAF system design, which allows it to engineer units for specific applications and flow ranges. It takes this approach because the challenges of a DAF for a soap manufacturer are not the same challenges a meat-processing plant faces. The combination of a simplified approach to DAF design and a team with expert industrial process knowledge allows the FRC engineered group to manage each DAF process design individually and unlock opportunities for optimizing installation for cost and effectiveness.

FRC PCL DAF systems represent this simplified, yet tailored approach to DAF design. They utilize a cross-flow plate pack and are characterized by high-built or tall tanks that house inclined, corrugated plate packs. The cross-flow configuration limits the distance solids must float to be effectively separated from the wastewater. This provides FRC engineers a wide range of design options to meet the specific application requirements and fit within limits of floor space. They cover flows from 24 to nearly 2,000 gal per minute and have a free surface area from 5.5 to 151 sq ft. Click here for more information.
